Susan Hermann
National Sawdust Board
Sue was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. She received her undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and her law degree from the University of Cincinnati.
After graduating from law school and passing the Ohio Bar exam, Sue immediately began preparing for a move to New York. As a young girl, she had dreamed of living there, inspired by the idea that “if you can make it there” … and now she had her chance. She lived and worked in New York and Connecticut for the next 30 years. In 1985, she began her career with a large accounting and tax firm and, three years later, joined an investment banking firm owned by General Electric. She would go on to spend the next twenty-seven years at GE in a variety of roles, including international tax counsel, which afforded her the opportunity to travel worldwide and complete two tours living and working in London.
Sue’s work at GE also allowed her to financially support a variety of philanthropic causes important to her. After retiring from GE in 2015, she sought opportunities to contribute her time and professional skills as well. She has volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem for children removed from their homes, taught financial literacy to single mothers, and mentored at-risk youth on their paths to college. She has been deeply involved with the Bay Park Conservancy in Sarasota, Florida, supporting efforts to preserve the natural beauty of Sarasota Bay, and with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at The Ohio State University. She was also fortunate to be one of the first investors in National Sawdust and hopes to continue contributing in other meaningful ways.
