JL Marlor (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist, composer, songwriter, and educator known for her narrative-driven large-scale vocal works and chamber music. Her work examines the intersections between the collective and the individual as it relates to protest and social change, drawing heavily from Slavic women’s music, riot grrrl punk, plainchant, and American protest music. Called "refreshingly bold" by OperaWire, JL has written for Wet Ink Ensemble, SparkDuo, The DeCamera Singers, Mivos Quartet, OperaRox, LoftOpera, New Music Gathering, and has had her works performed at the Boston Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, The National Opera Center, BANFF Center, Westminster Choir College, Smith College, and BRIC Arts Media. As an electric guitarist, JL performs as the frontwoman of the indie rock band, Tenderheart Bitches, which performs regularly throughout New York City at venues such as Arlene's Grocery, Union Pool, The Knitting Factory, and others.  JL also performs regularly as a singer and lead guitarist of the punk-rock musical turned concert experience, Riot Antigone, which premiered at La Mama and has subsequent performances at Ars Nova and Joe's Pub. A passionate JL teaches composition and musicianship to middle schoolers with the New York Philharmonic’s Very Young Composer program, The Symphony of Westchester's Songcatchers program, American Composers Orchestra's Sonic Spark Lab, and choir and vocal skills at a middle school in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.
